Getting to the museum
- Kalamaja Museum is located in Kalamaja, Kotzebue 16. The museum is housed in a white functionalist-style house built in the 1930s. In front of the museum there is a small triangular green area on one side and a garden on the other side, which can be accessed through two gates. The garden is open during museum opening hours and is free of charge.
- The museum has two entrances, one on the Kotzebue side and the other in the garden of the building. A nine-step stone staircase leads up to the main entrance, while the entrance on the garden side, which is on the same level as the street, is normally locked.
- Wheelchair access is not possible.
- There is no parking at the museum, so we recommend using public transport, walking or cycling.
- Visitors with reduced mobility may temporarily park on the pavement in front of the museum, but must move to a public car park after their visit. The largest and most accessible car park is located underneath the market building at the Baltic Station. Parking is also available on the streets around the museum, where the city centre parking zone applies.
- The nearest tram stop is the Baltic Station, served by trams 1, 2 and 5.
- The nearest train stop is the terminus of the trains at Tallinn Baltic Station.
- By train or tram, you can get to the museum along Vana-Kalamaja Street. The distance from the tram stop is about 280 metres and from the train station about 380 metres.
- See also the Tallinn public transport map.
- The bike parking is in front of the museum.
Cloakroom and toilets
- The cloakroom is located on the ground floor, just to the right of the main door.
- Please leave large bags and outerwear in the cloakroom. Bags can also be left with the museum staff at the cash desk if necessary.
- The toilets are on the ground floor, next to the cloakroom. There is also a children’s changing table and children’s potty. Two toilets are located in the basement, accessed by stairs.
Moving around the house
- The exhibitions are on five levels. In addition to the basement, first and second floors, the museum also has two mezzanine floors, where the kitchen and the temporary exhibition gallery are located. Stairs lead to all floors. Some of the doorways are high.
- The museum’s kitchen, which is used for events, is on the same level as the street. The kitchen can be accessed from the house or from a separate entrance located in the house garden. A staircase leads from the kitchen to the toilet.
- It is not possible to move around the house in a wheelchair or pushchair. You can leave your pram in the courtyard of the museum or in the greenhouse in the garden in case of rain.
Seats
- Seating is available in the museum lobby, museum shop and exhibition halls. These are mostly benches or chairs with backrests. There is also a sofa and armchairs in the living room on the second floor.
Light and sound
- The size of the texts and the lighting in the exhibition rooms may vary depending on the exhibition.
- There is no sound background in the permanent exhibition hall, but depending on the exhibition, there may be sound at temporary exhibitions.
Guide dogs
- The museum can be visited with a trained guide dog.
Program

Museum Night Participatory Collage Workshop -> at the Arrow Group's exhibition "In Sogas Water II" at 16.00 and 19.00.
The exhibition in the museum's gallery allows the public to interact.
In the workshop, we offer a unique opportunity to create, together with the artists, specific figures of fishermen, which will be added to the pan on the gallery wall, become part of the exhibition and the characters of the following animations. Participants in the workshop will thus become full co-authors of the exhibition.
You can also make a fish man figurine with a magnet to take home.
The artists will explain in more detail how the exhibition came to be and what it is about, you can experiment with the animation board together and create collages with professional tips. Everyone will get a unique and correct result, as the activity is methodically structured and we will use the appropriate materials, tools and techniques and provide creative guidance.
All art lovers, young and old, from the age of 9 are welcome.
