Tahkuna lighthouse is the tallest tower on Estonian beaches - 42.7 metres above sea level.

Construction of the lighthouse began in 1873, and its distinctive "square" appearance is due to the cast-iron construction.

Together with the auxiliary buildings, the lighthouse is a cultural monument under national protection and is one of the six Estonian lighthouses selected by The International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) for the list of 100 lighthouse architectural monuments.
