Program

“There are voices in the night!” reminds us that museums are places of listening and reflection – where different times, voices and perspectives meet. Every voice counts. Some whisper, some shout, some ring out loud across generations. This theme offers an opportunity to explore who we hear and listen to, and who we don’t: whose stories, opinions and experiences resonate, and whose voices have been muted over time.

The Põltsamaa Castle Museum is looking forward to the Museum Night and invites you to enjoy the following programme:

17.00 Lecture “Issues in the study of the urban development of Põltsamaa in the 20th century” | Robert Treufeldt
The lecture will take place in the framework of the 100th anniversary of the city of Põltsamaa in the Magnus hall of the gate building and is FREE OF CHARGE.

From 30 April, a new permanent exhibition “From Põltsamaa to Estonia”, focusing on the history of the parish of Põltsamaa, will be open in the Palace Museum House. Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Põltsamaa becoming a town, the exhibition takes an in-depth look at the former village life, business, social life, mixed choirs and brass bands, as well as becoming a town. On Museum Night, three exclusive tours of the new permanent exhibition will take place, and the Niguliste Church in the castle courtyard will also be open to the public:

18.00, 19.00 and 20.00 Curatorial tour at the new permanent exhibition “From Põltsamaa to Estonia”
NB! Each tour is limited to 20 participants and pre-registration is required. Please register HERE.

Admission to the tour costs €1.
A visit to the new permanent exhibition on its own is also €1 on Museum Night.

18.00 Organ concert in the church – Marten Meibaum on organ
Marcel Dupre Prelude in G minor, Iain Farrington “When I lay my burden down”, Olivier Messiaen “Joy and clarity from a glorified body”, improvisations on themes chosen by the audience. Come and order your favourite song! The organist’s performance can be followed live on the big screen! If possible, bring a donation in support of Marten’s upcoming American concert tour.

19.00 Listening to Herbert Kuurme’s sermon in the church. The sermon was recorded in 1996, on the 44th anniversary of the re-consecration of the church.

From 18.00 to 21.00, in addition to the new permanent exhibition, the other houses are open – the convention hall & the castle tower and the permanent exhibition in the gatehouse – tickets for these houses are -25% off for everyone this evening! In addition, free exhibitions will be open in the Masters’ House: in the gallery corridor, the Masters’ Houses exhibition area and the Central Estonian Art Gallery pART. The Oberpahlen restaurant in the castle courtyard will be serving delicious food!
