360° History

The Red Tower is Pärnu’s oldest preserved building, the basement of which housed the city prison 600 years ago. The small, thick-walled tower houses a fascinating museum, which is open to the public. The panoramic circular cinema on the mezzanine floor takes you on a 10-minute colourful journey through 15 000 years!

When visiting the Red Tower on Museum Night, bring your headphones and a QR code reader with you!
Along with your ticket to the tower, you will receive a sound theatre programme “Forgotten Tales of the Red Prison Tower”.
Behind the QR codes, you can hear the voices of people who were in the tower centuries ago – Odo the mason tells about the construction of the Red Tower, the torments in the tower’s deep prison cell are recounted through the meditations of the churchwarden Droste, and the life of the common people in medieval Pärnu is narrated by Didrik the court judge.
In the former prison tower of the city of Uus-Pärnu, the souls of people who left this world hundreds of years ago float… They roam the courtyard, clamber up the stairs, creep along the walls and wander in and out of the former shooting galleries… You can’t see them… But if you listen carefully….

NB! Limited number of visitors in the Red Tower! Be prepared for waiting times and a lively queue!
The last group of visitors will be admitted to the tower at 22.30!
