20:00 “Stories and Songs of Maryˮ
Stories and songs about the Virgin Mary intertwine in the baptistery chapel of the Cathedral of St. Mary to form a powerful whole.

At 23:00 concert “Listening to Springˮ– admission is free with a donation for the repair of the Cathedral organ
The Tallinn University of Technology Chamber Orchestra will perform – a collective that has been active for almost ten years, characterised by a good sense of music and captivating ensemble playing. Composed mainly of strings, the orchestra enriches its sound with a chromatic cello, which adds a unique colour to the music.

The concert will feature both well-known classical instrumental music (Handel, Grieg, etc.) as well as spring-appropriate songwriting by various composers (Rannap, Ernesaks, Kõrvits, Sibul, etc.). The soloist will be the young singer Liam Younes Hussar, who already has several seasons of stage experience in Estonian musical theatres.

The concert will also feature improvisations by herdsmen’s pipes, which will create a sense of the sounds of bygone times and fit in with the Night of Museums theme “There are voices in the night”.

Conductor Tarmo Kivisilla.

For younger visitors: there are worksheets in the church for kindergarten and primary school children and young people on the theme “There are voices in the night”. When you return the completed worksheet, you will receive a little surprise from the church warden.

Bring the whole family to enjoy the special atmosphere of Museum Night and discover the sounds of the night in the sanctuary!

Important info

1279. Haapsalu Cathedral, first mentioned in 1898, is one of the largest single-bay churches in the Nordic and Baltic countries. It was reconsecrated on Christmas Eve 1990, after the Soviet era.

On Mother’s Day 1992, the Mother Altar was consecrated in the Baptismal Chapel to commemorate the Estonian mothers who died under Soviet rule. There is also a beautiful dolomite baptismal font (Joachim Winter, 1634). On a clear full moon in August, the White Lady can be seen in the window of the baptismal chapel of Haapsalu Cathedral.

Thanks to its good acoustics, the church is an excellent concert venue.
